CouncilWise goes to Tennant Creek

Barkly Regional Council chooses CouncilWise Cloud, becoming the 7th local government client in the Northern Territory

With 322,713 square kilometres, Barkly Regional Council is roughly 100,000 square kilometres larger than the state of Victoria. Headquartered in Tennant Creek about 10 hours drive south from Darwin, it is a sparsely populated, remote and beautiful region extending from the middle of the Northern Territory to the Queensland border on the East. Meet our newest client!

Rural and remote local governments in Australia have always had it rough - small budgets, lack of staff and resources, harsh climates, aging infrastructure (or lack thereof) and incredible distances make council operations difficult. These small councils often get the cold shoulder when it comes to assistance from software vendors, but we've been making a name for ourselves - we honestly love visiting and helping these councils. As often as not, the receptionist might also be the rates officer, and by and large staff wear two, three or even more hats.

Make no mistake, there are highly skilled staff in the outback, and Barkly has quite a few. Progressive, solutions oriented and hungry for change, Barkly has selected us to be part of their transformation. With Tennant Creek boasting internet speeds rivalling Darwin and Alice Springs, a cloud-based property and rating system makes sense. Our product will be handling this, together with licences and permits, animal management, receipting, bulk processing, and will be integrated with their finance system of choice - Xero. These smaller councils have the same requirements in relation to process, reporting etc but often a staff base that's so small that they struggle to keep their head above water with systems that are not built for the users that drive them - or worse, they are sold features and addons they will never use. Our system will change that.

Welcome, Barkly, to the CouncilWise family. This brings us to 7 councils in Northern Territory, and we're looking forward to getting back out to your office soon.
